Melanie Rigby was Lucy Armitage's friend from the school rap club. In August 1988, when Lucy was staying with her sister Shirley and Curly Watts at 15a Coronation Street, Melanie brought her tapes and blaster for a music session at the flat. Curly enjoyed the rap music and joined in the dancing, but Shirley made them turn the volume down when she came home and accused Curly of being a pushover. Alf Roberts too was unimpressed, commenting from downstairs in the Corner Shop that if he wanted to hear pressure drills he'd listen to some roadworks.
