The unnamed Solicitor met with client Ken Barlow in April 1995. After explaining that he thought that his ex-partner Denise Osbourne was being uncooperative and refusing Ken access to his son Daniel, the solicitor explained that he didn't actually have any automatic rights; although they could apply to the courts to get rights conferred. After establishing that Ken wouldn't be applying for custody - just regular contact and a say in his son's future and confirming that there wouldn't be any valid reason why Denise should deny regular contact, the solicitor advised that it would be best to come to a compromise face-to-face rather than dragging the case through the courts.
