The Triage Nurse attended to Steve McDonald's fractured cheek bone when he was accidentally punched by a man in a pub. The punch was intended for Steve's brother Andy, as he had been chatting up the man's girlfriend. Andy dodged out of the way and the punch landed on Steve.
Andy was still drunk, and when the triage nurse told the pair to go to reception so their details could be taken, wasn't pleased. Seeing the severity of Steve's injury, the nurse sent him to a cubicle but when he threatened to call the police if there was any trouble, Andy became abusive and called him a "dickhead". Martin Platt, a colleague and neighbour of the McDonalds, intervened to calm the situation, after which Steve collapsed on the floor.
