Wally Llewelyn was the curly-haired landlord of a pub in Mold. In May 1995, he served Jack Duckworth, who was spending the evening drinking at the pub after giving Vera the slip during a caravan holiday. They got chatting when Jack complimented Wally on his spirits. The subject then changed to the fiftieth anniversary of VE-Day and Jack's memories of being evacuated to Mold during the war. Wally then introduced Jack to Sid, a pub regular who had escaped from a German POW camp fifty years prior.
