Frank Pettingell (1st January 1891 - 17th February 1966) was born in Liverpool and after an education at Manchester University became an artist, then a journalist and finally an actor. He made his stage debut in 1910 and his film debut in 1931, appearing in many productions including The Good Companions (1933), Sing As We Go (1934) and Gaslight (1940). Considered a major character actor, the part of James Nugent, Emily Bishop's father, in two episodes of Coronation Street in August 1961 was one of many parts he played in a career that lasted until 1965, one year before his death in London.
