George Harry Malpas (born 1st November 1926 in Warrington, died 26th February 2001 in Bradford) appeared in Coronation Street in seven roles:
- A postman in November 1966
- Mike, an employee of Fairclough and Booth in October 1968
- Music school janitor Mr Adams in August 1970
- Norman Tindall, handyman at the Baytree Hotel in February 1971
- Robin Hood pub waiter Charlie in December 1971
- Marion Willis's Uncle Wilf in October and November 1983
- A tramp in December 1988.
He studied dialects as a hobby and was an army interpreter during World War II with expertise in French and German. After the war he became a teacher, later taking up a drama correspondence course and becoming a member of RADA.
His long list of credits includes contributions to almost every major series on British television from the mid-1960s to the late 1990s including Z Cars, Crossroads, Nearest and Dearest, a regular part in Tom Grattan's War, Last of the Summer Wine, George and Mildred, Play for Today, Juliet Bravo, Dramarama, All Creatures Great and Small, Brookside, The Bill, Lovejoy, Kavanagh QC and the movies Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Young Sherlock Holmes.
On stage, he appeared in productions of The Marriage of Figaro, She Stoops to Conquer, Singer, As You Like It, A Dream of People and Single Spies.
