George Turner was a friend of Arnold Swain who took him out on the night before Arnold's wedding to Emily Bishop in September 1980. George acted as a witness alongside Deirdre Langton during the ceremony which was conducted in Weatherfield Registry Office.

He had been a navy man, last serving on the Red Duster.

Bill Waddington would go on to play long-time Coronation Street resident Percy Sugden.
