The unnamed Girl Clerk worked at the adoption society that Len and Rita Fairclough visited in June 1981 to put themselves down for adoptive parents. She showed them into the office of Mrs. Ramsden for a painful interview during which it was made clear to the couple that they were too old to be considered.
