Halifax is a Minster town, within the Metropolitan Borough of Calderdale in West Yorkshire, England. It has an urban area population of 82,056 in the 2001 Census. It is well known as a centre of England's woollen manufacture from the 15th century onward.
Ivy Tilsley visited the town in May 1985 when she accompanied her "gentleman-friend" and Baldwin's Casuals van driver George Wardle on a delivery there. Just over ten years later, in November 1995, Reg Holdsworth left Weatherfield when he became Chief Executive for Distribution of Firman's Freezers based in the town of Lowestoft but in a typical move on Reg's part he thought that Eric Firman was going to offer the job to the manager of his branch in Halifax. He raced to the town to head Firman off but failed to get there in time. Firman was there for other purposes though and the Lowestoft job was Reg's for the taking all the time.
