Hull, officially Kingston upon Hull, is a city and unitary authority area in the county of the East Riding of Yorkshire, England.
It was founded as a port in the twelfth century by the monks of Meaux Abbey as a place from where the wool from their estates could be exported to the continent and has been a market town, military supply port, a fishing and whaling port and an industrial area. Its prosperity peaked in the years just before the First World War and it was granted city status in 1897. On 8th March in the same year, actress Margot Bryant was born there. The city received extensive bombing in the Second World War with 95% of its houses damaged or destroyed.
In Coronation Street, Jamie Baldwin was sent to the city on a delivery run in June 2005 by his father Danny Baldwin who was jealous of his relationship with Leanne Battersby and wanted to keep them apart.
Exactly ten years later, Jenny Bradley fled there with youngster Jack Webster after she had kidnapped him in Weatherfield. Jenny had undergone a mental breakdown following the death of her own son Tom Midgeley two years previously and took Jack in the hope that he would prove to be a substitute. When it became clear that even the presence of the little boy provided no relief to her, Jenny rang Rita Tanner and she rushed across the Pennines with Kevin and Sophie Webster. Jack was rescued and Jenny broke down before being taken away by the police.
