Ian Mercer (born 1962 in Oldham) appeared on Coronation Street in two roles: between April and June 1987 as Pete Jackson, an old army mate of Terry Duckworth; and he returned to the programme between October 1995 and October 2000 as Gary Mallett.
On leaving school he trained as an electrical engineer but decided upon an acting career when he was employed as an assistant stage manager at the Oldham Coliseum in 1979.
Other TV credits include roles in Brookside, How We Used to Live, The Monacled Mutineer, Screenplay, Cracker, Common As Muck, A Touch of Frost, The Street, Holby City, Waking the Dead, Shameless and Doctors. On stage he acted in the play entitled The York Realist at the Strand Theatre in London.
He graduated from Northumbria University with a degree in English and Art History in 2007.
