Ivan Beavis (22nd April 1926 - 24th December 1997) was one of the original cast of Coronation Street, playing bus driver Harry Hewitt for four years from Episode 2 onwards with guest appearances in 1965 and 1967 when his character was killed off. After the Street he continued to act, appearing in television programmes until the 1980s. The Liverpool-born actor made several appearances on Z Cars, and played Mr Hutchinson in seven episodes of The Liver Birds. Prior to appearing in the Street, he had played a small part in an episode of the Granada Television series Knight Errant Limited, broadcast on 20th October 1960 and directed by Derek Bennett, who directed the first two episodes of Coronation Street. Before this, Beavis was for many years an audit clerk, accountant and company secretary before becoming a full-time actor in 1960.
