John "Jack" Smethurst (born 9th April 1932 in Collyhurst, Manchester, died 16th February 2022 in Chorleywood, Hertfordshire) appeared on Coronation Street in four roles:

He also appeared in The Economy Drive, an episode of the Street spin-off Pardon the Expression, transmitted in January 1966.

Best known for his role as the bigoted Eddie Booth in the 1970s sitcom Love Thy Neighbour and its spin-off Love Thy Neighbour in Australia, his other television credits included roles in Quatermass and the Pit, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, No Hiding Place, Z Cars, Here's Harry, The Villains, Dixon of Dock Green, Softly Softly, For the Love of Ada, The Bill, Heartbeat, Doctors and Casualty.

Film roles included Carry on Sergeant, A Kind of Loving, Doctor in Clover, Please Sir!, Man About the House and King Ralph.

On stage, he appeared in productions of Gwendoline, Serjeant Musgrave's Dance, All Things Bright and Beautiful, Many a Naked Bird, After You with the Milk, My Friend Miss Flint, When We Are Married and Talking Heads.

He was the special guest on the edition of This Is Your Life, transmitted on 24th January 1973.
