Jackie Lane was born on 10th July 1947 in Manchester. Early work as an actress was as part of the Library Theatre Company in Manchester and television work included Compact and an appearance as Cheryl, a fan of Walter Potts in Coronation Street in January 1964 under her acting name of Jackie Lenya. A couple of months earlier she had been considered for part of the original cast of Doctor Who but had turned the offer down as she did not want to commit herself to a long run in a series. In 1966 she changed her mind when offered another part as the companion Dorothea "Dodo" Chaplet which she played for the next five months. Soon afterwards she up acting and became a secretary in the Australian embassy in Paris. Later on, back in the UK, she became a theatrical agent.
