James Vaughan appeared in Coronation Street between September and December 1989 as Det. Sgt. Crichton who investigated Alan Bradley's reign of terror on Rita Fairclough.

This was his first television role but he has gone on to appear in Grange Hill, All in the Game, The Chief, Agatha Christie's Poirot, Wycliffe, The Knock, The Broker's Man, Bugs, The Locksmith, Family Affairs, Casualty, The Grimleys, Daylight Robbery, The Bill, Silent Witness, Dalziel and Pascoe and The Whistleblowers.

Film roles include Mrs Brown, Wilde, Command Approved, Crush, The Affair of the Necklace,Great Expectations and The Honourable Rebel.

On stage, he appeared in the musical I'd Rather Be Right.

Radio work includes The Change, No Commitments: Soap Bubbles, Smelling of Roses and Absolute Power.
