Janet Powers was the estranged wife of Vinnie Powers who visited 4 Coronation Street to discuss the situation between teenage lovers Sophie Webster and their daughter Sian with Sophie's parents, Kevin and Sally Webster.
Vinnie was aggressive from the moment that he entered the house while Janet tried to be a peacemaker. He blamed her for indoctrinating her with constant church attendance and after telling Sian that he was disowning her, he stormed out of the house leaving Janet behind. She calmly told the Websters that now they could see why they had split up and ended up staying for a meal with the family. During this, Sally tried to persuade Janet to take Sian in but she showed herself to be the selfish person she was when she used the excuse that things would be difficult as her new fruit-machine selling boyfriend, Yusif, had just moved in himself. Things deteriorated at that stage and following a few caustic comments from Sally, Janet walked out.
Janet arrived for Sophie and Sian's wedding in December 2011, but Sophie slipped on her vows and Sian ended up fleeing from the ceremony at Hale Chapel. Sian eventually decided to leave Weatherfield with her mother.
