He then wrote one episode - Episode 4460 (23rd August 1998) - of Coronation Street. He moved on to become one of the programme's directors with 23 episodes to his credit, and has also directed episodes of Casualty, Bad Girls, Wild At Heart, Shameless, Quirke, A Touch Of Cloth, In the Flesh and Chasing Shadows.

Uniquely, he is the only person who has both written for and directed the programme.
