John Barcroft (born "John Alexander Payne" on 28th August 1929 in Croydon, died 9th June 2013 in Southampton) appeared on Coronation Street between April and May 1966 as Mr. Snape, manager of Pick-a-Snip Supermarket, who accused Ena Sharples of shoplifting.

His other television credits include The Spread of the Eagle, Z Cars, Sherlock Homes, The Flying Swan, cynical bachelor George Forsyte in The Forsyte Saga, Mr. Rose, The Troubleshooters, Timeslip, The Main Chance, Spy Trap, The Brothers, Nightingale's Boys, Rooms, Lillie, Butterflies, Emmerdale Farm, County Hall and The Country Boy.

Film roles include Tunes of Glory, Commuter Husbands, One Hour to Zero and Morons from Outer Space.

On stage, he appeared in productions of Tartuffe, Mary Stuart, Macbeth, Julius Caesar, Ghosts, The Cenci and The Tempest for the Old Vic and Born Yesterday for Farnham Repertory Company.
