John Carter was a clerk at the Labour Exchange who chatted about Lucille Hewitt with co-workers Peggy Prentice and Mr. Stewart in October 1971. Lucille was accusing Miss Prentice of sending her on a wild goose chase to an interview at a travel agents which was filled by the time she got there, but Peggy and Mr. Stewart thought it more likely that the interviewer had told Lucille that to get rid of her, having been put off by her hostile attitude. John didn't seem convinced, but he had not dealt directly with Lucille.
