Role in Coronation Street[]
In October 1969, while returning home from a day trip to the Lake District, a coach carrying several residents of the street crashed into a tree after its steering mechanism failed. The driver, Reg Ellis, was killed in the crash, and passenger Ray Langton was left wheelchair-bound for several months.
Alec Hobson moved to the Lake District in April 1982.
In July 1990, teenagers Steve McDonald and Joanne Khan travelled to the Lake District on a motorbike. Upon arrival, Joanne had doubts about Steve's intentions and hitchhiked back to Weatherfield.
Following the death of her husband Derek, Mavis Wilton moved to the village of Cartmel, close to the Lake District, in October 1997 to run a bed-and-breakfast.
In February 2010, Joe McIntyre travelled to the Lake District in an attempt to fake his death and also to evade loan shark Rick Neelan. After sailing on Lake Windermere one night, a strong gust of wind threw Joe overboard. In the strong, cold winds and the ice cold water, hypothermia set in and Joe drowned before he could pull himself back onto the boat.
