Lesley Manville (born 12th March 1956 in Brighton) appeared on Coronation Street in June 1982 as Jill Mason, who was temporarily employed by Gail Tilsley as a childminder to son Nick.

She attended the Italia Conti from the age of fifteen and had a successful early career with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal Court. She has worked extensively with film director Mike Leigh and also has an extensive list of television appearances.

Other credits include roles in Softly Softly: Task Force, Emmerdale, King Cinder, The Gentle Touch, Soldier Soldier, Ain't Misbehavin, Silent Witness, Rose and Maloney, Cranford, Midsomer Murders and Fleming. On stage she has appeared in productions including His Dark Materials and Les Liaisons Dangereuses, and won an Olivier for her role in the National's revival of the Ibsen play Ghosts.
