Lindens Boarding School was a respected academy which was attended by boys and girls in the 1970s. When Janet Barlow faced the prospect of having to raise Peter and Susan Barlow after marrying Ken, her sympathetic and similarly non-maternal friend Jill Barrett suggested that she send them to this boarding school instead of Bessie Street, the local primary school. Janet liked the idea and asked Jill to send her a brochure in the post. However, when Ken found it he blew his top, furious that Janet had married him with the full knowledge that he expected her to be a mother to his children. The prospect of the twins being sent there was instantly nullified.
