The unnamed Magistrate presided over the court hearing of David Platt, following his rampage on Coronation Street earlier in the month. The charges included criminal damage, causing actual bodily harm to Ken Barlow and an assault against an on-duty police officer. The magistrate thought it quite unorthadox for the defendant to refuse legal representation and to plead guilty to all charges.

The magistrate tolerated several outbursts in the courtroom by David's mother Gail, who was trying to defend her son's actions. The magistrate concluded that David had not shown any remorse and that neither a fine or community sentence could be justified. David was sentenced to a four-month detention and training order.
