Marc Anwar

Marc Anwar is an actor who played businessman Sharif Nazir in Coronation Street from February 2014 to November 2016. He was sacked from the show in September 2016 due to offensive comments on his Twitter account aimed at people in India, which led to a storyline involving an affair between Sharif and Sonia Rahman (Sudha Bhuchar) having to be edited to deal with his departure.

A graduate of the London Academy of Dramatic Art, he has built up a long list of appearances since the early 1990s in series such as Boon, Emmerdale, Doctors, Common as Muck, Holby City, Dalziel and Pascoe and Citizen Khan. He remains best known for the role of the dictatorial father George in productions of East is East as well as Orange, Twelfth Night and The Duchess of Malfi. His film roles include Captain Phillips, Pusher, 51st State, My Son The Fanatic and Brother’s In Trouble.
