Marion Dawson (18th October 1888 - April 1975) appeared on Coronation Street in two roles: in May 1962 as Matilda Grimshaw who lived in another street named "Coronation Street" in the area which the council wished to rename and, secondly, in May 1967 as Elli Jane Peters who lost her granddaughter Sonia Peters in the viaduct crash disaster.

She began her career as an opera singer and turned to acting as a comedienne when her voice failed. That career came to an end when she lost an eye in a fireworks accident in 1932 but she continued to work, appearing in "quota quickie" films such as The Last Coupon, The Love Nest and A Political Party. Later television work included Be Soon, BBC Sunday-Night Play and City '68.
