Marsha Clifton was the wife of Neil Clifton and mother of Kayla.
In 2017, Marsha's husband Neil was discovered to be part of Nathan Curtis's grooming ring after Bethany Platt was able to tell her side of the ordeal. Marsha knew that Neil was guilty and decided against attending his trial, where he was found guilty and sent to prison.
However, Neil was able to convince his daughter Kayla that, while he had been involved in an affair with Bethany, he had never groomed her. Wanting to clear his name, Kayla began a relationship with Bethany's friend Craig Tinker, who worked beside her dad in the police force and had been involved with Neil's conviction. After connecting over him and Marsha both having OCD, Kayla gave Craig her number and following some encouragement from Bethany, they began dating.
Marsha visited Speed Daal after Kayla failed to come home after a night with Craig, telling her that she was worried about her. She also asked her daughter why she had decided to defer her place at university and that following the traumatic events of the previous year; Kayla's well-being was her main priority.
Marsha was then shocked to see Craig enter the restaurant and questioned her daughter about why she was so friendly with the officer from the trial. Kayla admitted that she wanted to expose Bethany in order to get her dad out of prison and that once the ordeal was over, she would then be ready to start university.
