Martyn Hesford (born February 1960 in Salford) is one of eight people who have both appeared in and written for Coronation Street. In February 1979 he appeared as student Harvey Stone in two episodes and he returned to the programme to write three episodes transmitted between July and October 2012 (the other seven writer/actors are S. Keith James, Alick Hayes, Ray H. Dunbobbin, Stephen Mallatratt, Bob Mason, Jim Cartwright and Ian Kershaw).

As an actor, he also appeared in Taggart, Juliet Bravo, Morgan's Boy and The Black Tower before changing to writing in the late 1980s. He has since penned television adaptations of The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and The Old Curiosity Shop as well as biopics of Marie Lloyd and Kenneth Williams (Fantabulosa!). His works have won several awards including a BAFTA.
