Matthew Marsh (born 8th July 1954 in London) appeared on Coronation Street in March and May 1994 as Laurence Cooper, the boss of Derek Wilton when he briefly worked for the pyramid-selling company EnviroSphere.
Originally studying English at university, he dropped out after a term and developed an interest for comedy, appearing with a fringe group at the annual Edinburgh Festival. During a stay in America, he answered an advertisement in Time Out magazine for an acting job. After touring with the Mikron Theatre Company for six months, he then moved on to regional playhouses and in turn, television.
His other credits include roles in Shine on Harvey Moon, The Monocled Mutineer, A Taste for Death, Chancer, Boon, Ruth Rendell Mysteries, Crocodile Shoes, Casualty, The Bill, Holby City, Silent Witness, Spooks, Heartbeat, Luther, Da Vinci's Demons and films including The Fourth Protocol, Mountains of the Moon, Dirty Weekend, The Turnaround, Miranda, An American Haunting, The Iron Lady and In Clear Sight.
On stage he has appeared in productions of Hamlet, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Broken Glass, Tolstoy, Copenhagen, Conversations After a Burial, The Little Foxes, Blood and Gifts and Proof.
