Melanie Tindel was a school friend of Maxine Heavey, who asked Maxine to do her hair for her wedding. The wedding was cancelled and Maxine quickly stepped in when the church booking became vacant.

Melanie agreed to be Maxine's bridesmaid and had a fling with Tom Ferguson in the bridal suite. They continued an affair for a month until Tom broke it off.
