Miami modes front

Shop front in 1963

Miami Modes was a clothing store located in Barker Street, Weatherfield. Dot Greenhalgh worked there from 1955 to 1969 and Elsie Tanner from 1955 to 1964 and again in 1969 in the "Better Dress Salon". They both resigned under pressure after Dot stole some items of clothing in October 1969 and set Elsie up to take the blame. Elsie was found not guilty in court but suspicion centred on the pair and their positions were untenable.

The store was still operating in July 1974 when Bet Lynch asked for an advance on her Rovers wages to buy a dress she had seen in the window but had closed by August 1980 when Elsie and Annie Walker were talking about the establishment. Annie typically commented that they had been too down-market for her but admitted that they had served a need and that they had sold some pretty frocks.
