Mo Marsh (née Dowty) was the wife of Alfie Marsh, a worker at Hardcastle's Mill was in 1915 was given the tenancy of 1 Coronation Street. Alfie had been promoted to foreman at the mill in appreciation for not joining his fellow workers behind the picket lines in 1911. He moved into No.1 without telling Mo; he'd only married her as her father Len Dowty was poorly and he expected to inherit his money. Like the staff who worked under him the mill, Mo was bullied by Alfie although he played the part of the loving husband in front of others. He was furious when Mo's father died leaving them not money, but debts, and he now had to support Mo's mother Louise financially. He ran off with Rovers barmaid Sarah Bridges who he married - just as he'd done with Mo, as Mo found out when his legal wife Sybil showed up at No.1 with her marriage lines. Fearing arrest, Mo threw herself into the canal.

Mo first appeared in Daran Little and Bill Hill's "Weatherfield Life", published in 1992. Other information is derived from Little's follow-up book, "Around the Coronation Street Houses".
