Family history[]
Divorcee Jerry Morton moved into 6 Coronation Street in March 2007 with his children; Jodie, Darryl, Mel and Kayleigh. Jodie fell into the role of a surrogate mother towards her siblings, in addition to running Jerry's Takeaway for her father, but decided to leave for London in November having grown sick of being taken for granted.
Jerry reconciled with his ex-wife Teresa Bryant in 2008 when she nursed him back to health following a heart attack and became a father-figure to her son Finlay. Although he changed his mind when it emerged that Teresa had been keeping him ill by grinding his medication into his food so that he would be dependent on her. After kicking Teresa out for good, Jerry relocated to Spain with Kayleigh and Finlay, selling the takeaway to Dev Alahan. Mel and Darryl remained behind on the street but Mel later moved to Stretford to live with her colleague Abi Sharpe in protest of Darryl allowing Teresa to stay with them.
Darryl began a relationship with Dev's daughter Amber Kalirai, but this ended in 2009 when Darryl accepted a bribe from Dev to leave Amber so that she would be free to attend university. Darryl joined his family in Spain and the following year allowed Teresa to come and stay with them after she decided to quit Weatherfield herself following a failed romance with Lloyd Mullaney.
