Mr Lewis was the registrar on duty at Weatherfield Register Office on 24th March 2003 when Peter Barlow was due to marry Lucy Richards. Peter had bottled out of telling his other fiancée, Shelley Unwin, that their marriage was off as it was the same day that she was burying her sister in Bradford. Upsetting Shelley, he managed to attend the funeral but made his excuses during the tea afterwards to make a made dash across the Pennines on the grounds of having a business appointment. He missed his deadline but the Receptionist checked with the registrar and as another wedding wasn't booked until 2.00pm, she fixed another slot. Peter arrived in time and they were duly married in the presence of Tracy Preston and Lucy's best friend Mandy Pearce.
