Mrs Battersby was a stern woman who was trimming her hedges when Alec Gilroy came over to ask about the whereabouts of her old neighbours Stan Shaw and Joyce Gilroy, in his quest to trace his daughter Sandra. Mrs Battersby remembered Shaw and assumed Alec to be a creditor but aside from that she wasn't of much help to him.
