Mrs Charlesworth was a customer in the Corner Shop who was queuing to be served when Alf Roberts abandoned the till to attend to Jim McDonald. Mrs Charlesworth tetchily reminded Alf that she was before Jim, although Jim was actually there to discuss with Alf the purchase of 11 Coronation Street and not as a shop customer, and in any case Sally Webster took over the till a moment later. To defuse the tension, Jim flirted with Mrs Charlesworth, bringing a smile to the woman's face. Once he'd left, she admitted to Sally that Jim was "a bit of alright".
