Mrs Roebuck was at the front of a long queue at an understaffed Corner Shop when a heavily pregnant Gail Tilsley and Sally Webster had a stand-up row in front of her. Alf Roberts had been left to cope on his own as his usual assistant Sally was on maternity leave and Audrey, as usual, had swanned off. Struggling to silence the women while packing Mrs Roebuck's shopping, Alf eventually told Gail and Sally to shut up, leading Sally to walk out and not accept Alf's invitation to step into the fray and lend him a hand. Mrs Roebuck chose that moment to remind Alf that she had a coupon to get 3p off the spaghetti.
