Nelson was the owner of the bar that Vernon Tomlin and Liz McDonald had planned to buy and move into. He was eager to sell and offered them the place at a discount as he'd been let down by his business partner and couldn't cope with running the place alone - stating that it would be extremely profitable with the right couple installed. However, Liz realised that she wasn't happy being with Vernon and turned the offer down.
