Nicholas Le Provost (born 18th March 1947 in Wiltshire) appeared on Coronation Street in December 1993 as Peter Hawkins QC, the barrister representing Steve McDonald when he was up in court on motoring offences.

He graduated from RADA in 1973 and his long list of television credits over the decades include roles in The Ghosts of Motley Hall, Crown Court, Bless Me Father, Shelley, Brideshead Revisited, The Borgias, The Jewel in the Crown, C.A.T.S. Eyes, Van de Valk, Casualty, Lovejoy, Inspector Morse, Midsomer Murders, Kavanagh QC, Foyle's War, Poirot, Silent Witness, Doc Martin, Wild at Heart, Father Brown and The Larkins.

Film roles include Crystal Gazing, Clockwise, The Girl in a Swing, The Lost Language of Cranes, Letters from the East, The Land Girls, Shakespeare in Love, Being Considered, Bright Young Things, Gladiatress, Miss Conception, Broken Lines, Made in Romania, Run for Your Wife, Testament of Youth and Here Comes Hell.

On stage, he has appeared in productions of King Lear, My Fair Lady, The Last Cigarette, Bedroom Farce, As You Like It, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Uncle Vanya, The Life of Galileo, Fuddy Meers, Blood, The Real Inspector Hound, The Critic, Dandy Dick, Winter Solstice and Antony and Cleopatra.

Since 2003, he has been heard as the voice of the fictional detective Jules Maigret on BBC Radio 4 and in numerous audiobooks.
