He began his career in 1983 as an operations assistant at TV-AM, working his way upwards through the ranks to become an assistant director in 1986 on programmes such as City Central, Liverpool 1, The Locksmith, The Beat Goes On, Soldier Soldier, Chancer, Boon, The One Game and Trial and Retribution.

He became a freelance director in 1999 and his other credits include Grange Hill, The Bill and long stints on Brookside and Hollyoaks.
