Noel Howlett (born 22nd December 1902 in Maidstone, died 26th October 1984 in London) appeared in Coronation Street in January 1968 as Mr Tabley.

In his long career he appeared in many stage, film and television roles but reached his greatest fame in the late 1960s/early 1970s comedy Please Sir! as the doddery headteacher Morris Cromwell.

His other television roles include parts in BBC Sunday-Night Theatre, Dixon of Dock Green, Boyd Q.C. , Quatermass and the Pit, Hancock, Maigret, The Avengers, The Wednesday Play, The Good Life and Happy Ever After.

Films included A Christmas carol, Lust for Life and Lawrence of Arabia. On stage he appeared in Hay Fever, Dear Charles and Waiting for Gillian.
