Norman Mitchell (born "Norman Mitchell Driver" on 27th August 1918 in Sheffield; died 19th March 2001 in Downham Market, Norfolk) appeared on Coronation Street in August 1966 as farmer Mr Butterworth.

He attended Carterknowle Grammar School and furthered his studies at Sheffield University.

His other television credits include Mr. Papingay's Ship, The Vise, Emergency-Ward 10, Scotland Yard, The Herries Chronicle, No Wreath for the General, Probation Officer, Maigret, Outbreak of Murder, The Monsters, Z Cars, Lorna Doone, Crossroads, The Flying Swan, Danger Island, On the Buses, The Train Now Standing, Emmerdale Farm, Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads?, Beryl's Lot, George & Mildred, Crown Court, Worzel Gummidge and Unnatural Acts.

On the bigger screen, he appeared in The Seekers, Police Dog, Battle of the V-1, Beat Girl, Three Hats for Lisa, The Great St. Trinian's Train Robbery, Oliver!, Bless This House, Man About the House, Revenge of Billy the Kid and numerous films in the Carry on series.

Stage productions include The Merchant of Venice, Hamlet, The Taming of the Shrew, Troilus and Cressida, Cymbeline, Macbeth and Othello for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Other works include The Wild Duck, Blind Alley, Johnny Belinda, Do Re Mi, After Haggerty, The Clandestine Marriage, The Roman Actor and I Have Been Here Before.
