Paul James Connor is a former Underworld owner, first husband of Carla and older brother of Liam and Michelle.

Paul bought Danny Baldwin's majority share of Underworld in 2006 and ran the lingerie factory with Liam as the junior partner. Paul was then killed in a car crash while attempting to expose Liam's girlfriend Leanne Battersby as a sex worker.

Paul was born in 1969 to Barry and Helen Connor and had two siblings follow in Liam and Michelle. In 1999, he married Carla Donovan. However unknown to Carla, Paul had begun visiting prostitutes behind her back, a fact that would not be revealed until many years later.

1999-2007: Marriage to Carla[]

Carla and Paul lived at 4 Drapers Mill Apartments, Weatherfield Quays. They got on well enough but their marriage was often clinical and they once considered seeking marriage guidance. Carla had no desire to become a mother and, though Paul was content to have a glamorous wife to show off, Carla wanted to be successful in her own right and in 2006 they put aside £12,000 for her to start her own children's clothing business.

In September 2006, Paul was called up by his brother Liam concerning buying shares in Underworld knicker factory from Adam Barlow. After Liam purchased Adam's 40% share, Paul helped him run the business after majority shareholder Danny Baldwin disappeared in November. When Carla gatecrashed the staff's Christmas party carrying a bottle of wine in each hand after walking out of a different party. The girls thought they had an ally against Paul when Carla got chummy with them, but at dinner afterwards she adopted a "them and us" attitude, making it clear to the staff that she wasn't one of them.

Paul paid Danny £80,000 for his 60% majority share, making him senior to Liam. He used wife Carla's funds from her children's clothing business to make the purchase.

In April when, in order to meet a deadline, Carla got her staff to work through the night, having already put in full shifts that day. As they were preparing to load the dungarees into the van, machinist Kasia Barowicz tripped and fell down a flight of stairs and was killed instantly. Kasia had been working illegal hours for Carla with no insurance, making Carla liable for criminal charges should the police find out the circumstances of Kasia's death, so for his wife's sake Paul waited until 8.00am to clock Kasia into work so that he could tell the police that she was working for Underworld.

While hiring a prostitute and meeting her at a hotel, Paul was shocked to discover she was Leanne Battersby, his brother's girlfriend. They both agreed to keep each other's secrets, but Paul was frustrated to see Leanne and Liam growing closer together, and tried to break them up by making Liam think Leanne was a gold digger, but Liam ignored his claims. Paul was uncomfortable when Leanne went into business with Carla, and her identity as a prostitute was revealed. Suspecting that Paul had used her services (as it would explain his dislike of her), Carla called the escort agency pretending to be Leanne and confronted Paul when the agency rang his phone. Despite Paul's protests, Carla refused to believe that he hadn't had sex with Leanne and vowed to divorce him. Blaming Leanne, he locked her in the boot of his car and planned to reveal her secret to Liam. However while distracted, his car got hit by a lorry and crashed. Leanne survived, but Paul ended up in a coma and later died at Weatherfield General.

After Paul's funeral in Ireland, Carla returned to Weatherfield. In his will, Paul had left everything to Carla, making her the majority owner of Underworld.

When Liam's wife Maria gave birth to a stillborn baby boy in 2008, they named him Paul Connor in memory of Paul.
