Paula Lane

Paula Lane played Kylie Platt in Coronation Street from August 2010 until July 2016. She was born in Hebden Bridge on 17th April 1986 and trained as an actress at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, graduating in 2008 with a first-class honours degree and made her television debut in Heartbeat. She has also appeared in Going Postal and The Royal. In 2011, she was nominated in the "Best Newcomer" category at both the National Television Awards and the British Soap Awards.

On 17th May 2014, she married childhood sweetheart Tom Shaw (who would later appear in Coronation Street as minor character Kim Vaughan) in a ceremony at Leeds Cathedral. The following month, it was announced she was pregnant and would be taking maternity leave later in the year. Kylie departed on-screen on Christmas Day, and Lane gave birth to a baby boy on 31st December. She resumed filming in May 2015 with the character returning on-screen the following month.

In February 2016, Paula announced she was pregnant with her second child. While it was initially thought that Kylie would be written out for a few months to accommodate Paula's pregnancy, Coronation Street producers announced that she would be leaving the role for good. Paula finished filming as Kylie in June that year. How Kylie was going to make her exit was kept closely under wraps until the following month, when it was announced that she would be killed off as part of a shock twist. Paula and co-star Jack P. Shepherd, who plays her on-screen husband David, were said to be in "uncontrollable tears" as they filmed Kylie's death scene, which aired on 15th July 2016, when she was fatally stabbed in the chest by teenage thug Clayton Hibbs while she was sticking up for Gemma Winter (played by Dolly-Rose Campbell). On 28th July 2016, Lane announced the birth of their second child, a daughter named Penny Grace.
