Peter Hughes (born 20th May 1922) appeared in Coronation Street in June 1971 as the Mayor of Weatherfield who opened the new Community Centre.

For many years in the 1950s he was a member of the Richmond Theatre repertory company and made his credited television debut in 1957, going on to appear in The Larkins, Z Cars, The Plane Makers, The Villains, Marriage Lines, No Hiding Place, Emergency-Ward 10, The Newcomers, Danger Man, The Avengers, The Wednesday Play, Mrs Thursday, Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased), And Mother Makes Three, Whodunnit?, Dixon of Dock Green, The Liver Birds, The Professionals, Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, Last of the Summer Wine, Howards' Way, Bergerac, Agatha Christie: Poirot, The Bill and Jonathan Creek.

Film roles include The Great Muppet Caper, A Passage to India, Hope and Glory and Evita.
