Phil Croft appeared on Coronation Street in two roles: firstly as Returning Officer Norman McLeod in the St. Mary's Ward by-election contested in July 1998; and he returned to the programme in December 2002 as a Customs Officer who stopped Steve and Karen McDonald on a routine drugs check on arrival back to Manchester Airport from Tenerife.

He trained at the Old Vic Theatre School and landed his first professional job in Glorious Years at Theatr Clywd. In the early 2000s he decided to switch to the other side of the camera to pursue his interest in role-play and facilitation, but has since made a return to the acting profession in recent years.

Other credits include roles in Life Without George, London's Burning, A Touch of Frost, Peak Practice, Where the Heart Is, Heartbeat, Dalziel and Pascoe, Citizen Khan, Emmerdale and the 1993 film Bhaji on the Beach.
