Prince Charles is the real life HRH Prince of Wales who appeared briefly in Coronation Street 's live episode broadcast on the 8th December 2000 for the programme's fortieth anniversary. He was seen in footage on a television news bulletin as he was on a supposed visit to Weatherfield as Councillor Audrey Roberts was presented to him. In reality the footage was taken earlier in the day as actress Sue Nicholls was presented to the Prince when he visited the Granada studios. It had previously been agreed with his staff that the pictures of his could be used in this manner during the episode and for this assistance he received a "With thanks to..." credit at the end of the instalment. As well as meeting Ms Nicholls, the Prince chatted to others of the cast and production team and unveiled a plaque to mark his visit that was attached to the outside of the Rovers set.
