The Registrar conducted the marriage service of Roy and Hayley Cropper held at the Shawbrooke Country House Hotel in August 2010. The wedding almost didn’t go ahead when the final carriage of the specially-chartered steam train containing the bride and bridesmaids was left further down the track after the couplings were sabotaged by Mary Taylor but the judicious use of a pump wagon saved the day.
Before this was known, the registrar voiced her concern as she had a civil ceremony to conduct at Chester Zoo at 5.00pm and couldn’t be late. Norris Cole, traditionalist to the core, was shocked to hear that a setting containing “red-bottomed monkeys” could be put to such a use.
