Rhoda Lewis (born 25th June 1933 in Moseley, Birmingham) appeared on Coronation Street in two roles: firstly in February 1963 as Miss Welch, a teacher at Weatherfield Girls' Grammar School; and she returned to the programme as Lillian Smith, wife of bookmaker Dave Smith, appearing intermittently between April and September 1969.

Her other credits include Z Cars, Emergency-Ward 10, Softly Softly, The War of Darkie Pilbeam (written by Tony Warren), Crown Court, Perils of Pendragon, Edward the Seventh, Lorna Doone, Doctor Who, Taff Acre, Death of an Expert Witness, The Bretts, Langley Bottom, EastEnders, The Bill, Doctors and Hustle.

On stage, she has appeared in numerous productions including South Sea Bubble, Ring for Cathy, Meet Mr Callaghan, A River Breeze, Mrs Willie, Spider's Web, Mrs Gibbons' Boys, The Affair at Assino, The Iron Duchess, The Diary of Anne Frank, Nude With Violin, Plaintiff in a Pretty Hat, Major Barbara, Much Ado About Nothing, Period of Adjustment, Mother Courage and her Children, The Flanders Mare, Macbeth, War and Peace, The Pavilion of Masks, The Seagull, Hedda Gabla, August and Enjoy.

Together with her late husband Norman Florence and their son Peter, she founded the world-famous Hay-on-Wye Festival of Literature in 1988.
