Roy Stevenson was a boy whom Susan Barlow met at the New Year’s Eve disco at the Community Centre in December 1979. He walked her home and she gave him a cup of coffee in return. Ken Barlow and Deirdre Langton returned home and found them dancing together. Roy politely made excuses and left while Ken instantly voiced his suspicions to Deirdre about what the two of them had been up to.
