Scotland is one of the four countries that make up the United Kingdom. The capital city is Edinburgh, and many characters over the years have either visited or moved to Scotland for a fresh start away from the cobbled streets of Weatherfield.

Tony Gordon and his brother Pat were born in Glasgow, the largest city in Scotland. After Valerie Barlow's death in 1971, her widowed husband Ken sent their five-year old twin children Susan and Peter Barlow to live with their grandparents, where they spent a lot of their childhood. Ken's grandson Adam Barlow was brought up in Scotland and attended boarding school there, where he sat Scottish Higher qualifications.

In 2013, when Tyrone Dobbs was in an abusive relationship with Kirsty Soames, he briefly considered running away with baby daughter Ruby and getting a Megabus to Glasgow so that he could escape from his fiancée.

Aberdeen has served as home to Owen Armstrong since 2015. Roy Cropper has a cousin who lives in Aberdeen, who he and his late wife Hayley have visited together. Freda Burgess, the deaf niece of Emily Bishop lived in Edinburgh until February 2020; Emily remains, having moved in with her in January 2018 after returning from Peru. However, the address she is said to be living at is entirely fictitious - made up for the programme.
