Scotland is one of the four countries that make up the United Kingdom, and the capital is Edinburgh. Tony Gordon and his brother Pat Gordon were born in Glasgow, the largest city in Scotland. After Valerie Barlow's death in 1971, her widowed husband Ken sent their five-year old twin children Susan and Peter Barlow to live with their grandparents, where they spent a lot of their childhood. Ken's grandson Adam Barlow was brought up in Scotland and attended boarding school there, where he sat Scottish Higher qualifications. Aberdeen has served as home to Owen Armstrong since 2015, and Roy Cropper has a cousin who lives in Aberdeen, which he and his late-wife Hayley have visited together. Freda Burgess, the deaf niece of Emily Bishop, lives in Edinburgh.
